Board of Directors

Lorne Beiles: President

Lorne has worked in Vancouver as a tax lawyer with the firm Davis & Company LLP. Lorne has expertise in the tax matters relating to charities and he hopes to bring this expertise to the Board. Lorne has worked as a volunteer for A Loving Spoonful as a driver/food delivery person since 2002. As a volunteer, Lorne developed a great appreciation for the work done by our organization and looks forward to offering his support as a member of the board. Lorne currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festivals since 2003 and has done volunteer work for AIDS Community Care Montreal, Project Genesis and the Jewish Family Services of Montreal prior to moving from Montreal to Vancouver in 1999. In his spare time, Lorne loves to be out in the mountains skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking.


Graeme Keirstead: Past President

Graeme Keirstead is a Law Society of British Columbia staff lawyer. His commitment to community activism has led Graeme to offer assistance to many non-profit organizations and mainstream political associations over the years. Graeme's past board experience encompasses Vancouver New Music, The Centre, The Pride Society, and Trinity United Church, where he remains a trustee. Graeme joined the board of A Loving Spoonful in 1999 and was first elected President in 2001.


Ken Channon: Secretary

Ken Channon has been A Loving Spoonful volunteer for eleven years, serving nine of those years as a board member, and was Treasurer until the last AGM. He has also volunteered as a driver and lent his accounting expertise to A Loving Spoonful. In his professional life, Ken is an accountant with C2 Media.


Dr. David Lai, M.D: Chair - Client Services Committee

David is a family physician who is currently practicing in the West End with a special interest in HIV and addiction issues. David completed his education at the University of Calgary 1993 and has since worked in the Philippines and India on medical and humanitarian missions. In addition, David was an associate professor at the University of Alberta from 1995 to 1999 before moving to Vancouver. David is committed to community service and over the years has contributed to AIDS Calgary, SEVA Foundation and the BC Children's Hospital and would like to continue this dedication with his new involvement with the Loving Spoonful.


Sonny Roche

Sonny Roche has had a 18-year journey of volunteering with A Loving Spoonful. He was one of the founding board members when the organization became a registered non-profit society in 1991. He is an activity co-coordinator and part-time fundraiser for the largest homeless shelter in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, Lookout Emergency Aid Society.


David Goudge

David has been a resident of Vancouver since 1983, when he moved here from Ottawa to enroll in a post graduate degree in Architecture at The University of British Columbia. (His undergraduate Urban and Regional Planning degree is from the University of Waterloo). Falling in love with Vancouver and the West Coast but not the profession of architecture, David chose to focus on a career in real estate, and worked with Macdonald Realty in Kerrisdale for more than 15 years. David approached A Loving Spoonful to contribute his time and compassion to a community that had supported his career over the years. He became a Board Member at the onset, and is an active member of the Donor Relations Committee. David is also part owner and Vice-Chair of Versaterm Inc. - a family-owned, software company based in Ottawa and Scottsdale, Arizona.


Alnoor Dawood

In 1987, Alnoor moved to Vancouver, along with his mother and sister, from Nairobi, Kenya. For the past 11 years Alnoor has worked with London Drug’s in the position of Department Manager in their computer division. His interests remain broad and varied. He has been an active volunteer with a Loving Spoonful since 1994, starting out as a driver, delivering meals to clients in the lower mainland. Alnoor then took on a greater role as a member of the Volunteer Leadership Team, of which he chairs today. Alnoor became a Board member in 2007. He is also the Vice-chair of the Ismaili Muslim Arts & Culture Committee for BC.

 

 

Christopher LaPrairie

Christopher made the move to Vancouver in 2005 and loves his life on the west coast. With a degree in Business, his professional career has spanned management assignments with multi-national advertising and communication agencies.  He is currently involved in advertising directives with a leading Canadian retailer.  Christopher has enjoyed his role with various A Loving Spoonful committees, and is looking forward to supporting A Loving Spoonful's continued undertakings and future vision.


Doug Freeman - Treasurer


Easter Armas – Founder

Easter Armas started her altruistic journey in 1985 as a volunteer for AIDS Vancouver. After years of volunteering, over 19 years ago, she founded A Loving Spoonful which provides free meals to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS. Easter shows a tireless commitment for those who are often overlooked. She advocates for those who don’t have a voice.

Easter Armas has received a Governor General’s “Canada 125” Medal for directing and founding The Vancouver Meals Society, now known as A Loving Spoonful. She returned to the Board of Directors in 2008 but still finds time to design shoes, eyeglasses and jewelry.

 


A Loving Spoonful receives 77% of its funding from private donations and grants, rather than government funding.
