Easter Armas: Secretary, Founder

Born and raised in San Francisco, Easter witnessed first hand how HIV/AIDS, then called the “gay cancer”, could devastate a community.  Many of her friends and acquaintances died in the early days of the pandemic. Easter began her altruistic journey in 1985.  She started volunteering for AIDS Vancouver by answering the helpline, raising money for the Emergency Fund and even painting their office. After observing an acquaintance with AIDS eating out of a garbage bin, Easter was determined to make a difference.  In 1989, A Loving Spoonful was born.   Easter is a proud recipient of the Governor General’s “Canada 125” Medal; VanCity’s “Ethics in Action” Award and “Cutest Baby of 1958” by the San Francisco Fire Fighters Association (and she still has the trophy and certificates to prove it).  Easter returned to A Loving Spoonful as a Director of the Board in 2008.
